About This Community Fund

Traditional wooden boat-building in Mumbai's Koliwadas is an endangered intangible heritage. As fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) hulls take over, the centuries-old knowledge of copper-riveted Malabar teak joints, hand-planed ribs, and natural fish-oil water sealing is fading with the elder generation. This community fund backs the comprehensive restoration of the trawler *Samudra Ratna*, docked at Versova Creek. Once restored, the vessel will serve as a living cooperative maritime workshop and educational platform for young Koli apprentices.
