At Bhoomiputra Foundation, our primary aim is to connect with the coastal communities of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region - and implement programs for the betterment of these communities.

Our story

The MMR is India's fastest-growing region, encompassing multiple adjoining districts and attracting a diverse population from various Indian states.

Our vision, ‘Rights for the Right People,’ emphasizes that the sons of the soil should not be neglected amidst this enormous growth. We are dedicated to ensuring their rightful place in this dynamic landscape. At the heart of our mission, we aim to become a catalyst for community betterment and a youth collective, amplifying our unique voice through impactful programs that reach decision-makers and authorities.

Our foundation is committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), which we prioritize in all our programs and initiatives. The objective of our program initiatives is to empower communities through capacity building, entrepreneurial development, and by connecting the dots between government, startups, and many more entities.

Through collaboration with various partners and academia, we develop unique initiatives that leverage both expertise and local knowledge. With strong grassroots support, our goal is to develop sustainable communities, ensuring long-term growth and prosperity for coastal communities in the region.

Our mission

Empowering coastal communities, from tradition to tomorrow.

Bhoomiputra Foundation empowers coastal communities through social entrepreneurship, youth leadership, and the connection of technology with tradition. We work to preserve cultural heritage, create opportunities, and build stronger, self-reliant communities across the coastal MMR. A key part of this work is Documenting Coastal Indigenous Knowledge — the Living Repository of Coastal MMR: capturing the lived experiences, practices, stories, skills, and ecological wisdom held by coastal communities, and turning this community knowledge into future solutions. By bringing together community wisdom, youth energy, academia, technology, and institutions, we create space for local knowledge to be recognised, shared, and applied to today’s challenges. Our aim is to help coastal communities retain their identity while building a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient future.

OUR AIM

Living coastal repository

Documenting Coastal Indigenous Knowledge. Turning Community Wisdom into Future Solutions. The Living Coastal Repository is Bhoomiputra Foundation’s effort to document and preserve the knowledge that lives within coastal communities—their stories, traditions, livelihoods, ecological practices, skills, memories, and ways of understanding their surroundings. We believe this knowledge is not simply part of the past. It is a living resource that can inform research, inspire innovation, strengthen cultural identity, and help shape solutions for the future. By bringing together community voices, young people, researchers, academics, and institutions, we aim to build a growing repository of coastal knowledge for the MMR—created with communities, not just about them.

Dr. Svetlana Tatuskar

Director, Kohinoor Business School, Mumbai

An accomplished academician and leader with 25 years of expertise in research, teaching, mentoring and training. She holds a Ph.D. in Banking and a Master's in Commerce, along with credentials as an Accounting Technician from ICAI. Her accolades include the RBI Scholarship for Banking Consolidation and a Best Ph.D. Award. Having authored 95+ research papers, Dr. Tatuskar is an Extraordinary Professor at North-West University, South Africa, and a trainer with institutions like TISS and SEBI - focusing on financial literacy, skill development and women's empowerment.

Gopal Jhaveri

‘The River Man’ · Director, Natural Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.

An architectural planner, designer and project consultant with a passion for sustainable urban transformation. A B.Sc. Mathematics Applied Computer graduate from Mumbai University and a member of The Institute of Engineering (India). Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's principles, especially the Dandi March, Gopal has tackled environmental challenges with impactful solutions - leading community-driven revitalization of polluted rivers and key contributions to urban infrastructure development, making him a leading force for socio-economic and ecological progress in Mumbai.

Acharya Satya Prabhu

Astro-Vastu Consultant · M.Com, ICWA, WMP (SP Jain)

An accomplished Astro-Vastu Consultant with an academic background that includes an M.Com, ICWA and WMP from SP Jain School of Management. With over 15 years of experience, she has guided more than 5,000 clients worldwide, achieving a remarkable 95% success rate.

Ketaki Bhadgaonkar

Architect & Urban Designer · Co-founder, Bombay61 Studio

Based in Mumbai, passionate about the evolution of dense urban neighborhoods. She graduated from Sinhgad Institute, Pune (2008) and completed her master's in Urban Design from CEPT University, Ahmedabad (2011-2013). Co-founder of Bombay61 Studio, an experimental urban solutions think tank, she leads urban design and research projects emphasizing public participation and experiential architecture. Since 2013 she has worked on sustainable projects in marginalised areas. Currently, she is an Associate Professor at KRVIA, Mumbai.

Adv. Rajendra Dalvi

Legal Advisor · Media rights & employee welfare

Holds a Master's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication along with a Bachelor of Law (LLB). With over 20 years of experience in the media industry, he has played pivotal roles as a Founder Member and Legal Advisor for the All India Media Employees Association and the All India Cine Workers Association, contributing significantly to the welfare and rights of professionals in the sector.
